Product Description

Travel back in time to the days of fur traders, explorers and the Hudson's Bay Company forts. The miniature Fort Trading Post is modeled after these old pioneer structures. The Fort is protected by high palisade walls connecting a log bastion (tower) with a detailed door, wooden framed windows, flag and an engraved canoe. The Fort Trading Post comes complete with non-toxic white glue for safe and convenient assembly.

A fort trading post had a very important role to play in the lives of pioneers in the North American continent. These trading posts were responsible for the development of the American and Canadian fur trade which in turn was what the economy of these places were based upon. However, it is widely acknowledged that these trading posts did more than just manage trade since they were responsible for bringing vast areas of Canada and the northern United States under control of the settlers.

The company that controlled these trading posts, and thereby the Canadian fur trade was the Hudson’s Bay Company. It was a very efficient organization that managed an immense network of these trading posts all over the sparsely inhabited areas of the north and it was also responsible for increasing understanding and awareness of these areas. When the country was finally created, it was the network of these trading posts that were incorporated into various government institutions because of the control they already exercised over the area.
